Why do we choose DWD panels for exterior cladding and not OSB?

In modern timber construction, choosing the right exterior cladding material is essential to ensure a healthy and durable structure. At Dorna Eco House, we use DWD panels (Agepan® DWD), vapour-permeable wood fibreboards certified to EN 622-5, which protect the structure against weather conditions and enable correct hygrothermal performance of the wall. These panels provide mechanical strength, controlled vapour diffusion, and long-lasting protection against moisture.

On the other hand, OSB panels make a significant structural contribution but act as a vapour barrier. For this reason, OSB is best used only on the interior, where it is not directly exposed to moisture and can support bracing without compromising the health of the wall. Using OSB on the exterior could promote condensation, mould growth, and degradation of the insulation over time.

By correctly combining DWD panels on the exterior with OSB on the interior, we deliver prefabricated timber structures manufactured on state-of-the-art CNC equipment, meeting the principles of sustainability and energy efficiency. This way, every project signed by Dorna Eco House benefits from stability, true durability, and optimal moisture control over time.
